LORD IS IT I? MATT. 26: 18 – 25
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. 20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. 21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? 23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. 25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
I. MATT. 26: 21 – 22 THE DISCIPLES ASK LORD IS IT I? 21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? They were so taken by Jesus words they did not here Jesus and Judas ver. 25. They did not see Judas dip with Jesus. Even when Judas left they did not understand. A. Rom. 14: 11 – 12 This is a personal question. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. It should cause us to stop and think. It should also give us hope because we will not be judged for someone else’s sins. I will account for me and you for you. B. 1 Cor. 11: 28 Let us examine ourselves and not one another. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
II. James 1: 16 – 17 Is it I that has been blessed? 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. A. John 3: 15 – 17 God loved us enough to send his son for us. 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. If Jesus had not come we would not be blessed but lost. B. Titus 2: 11 God not only blessed us but taught us what to do to obtain salvation. 11 ¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. If Jesus had only died for us we would have already sinned and would be lost again, but Christ taught how to over come sin, redeeming us from all sin and purifying us. For the grace of God hath brought salvation to all that will obey him. Not once saved always saved, but once saved, continuing in Christ obedient to his word. Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world looking for his appearing. III. 1 JOHN 3: 4 Is it I that sins by transgression? 4 ¶ Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. We make the choice to sin and must repent or suffer the consequences. A. 1 Cor. 11: 27 Am I examining my self before taking the Lord’s supper? 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. This is not a ritual or a tradition, it is a command of the Lord to remember Christ death. We need to take it seriously. The Lord does. B. Gal. 6: 7 - 10 Let us not get discouraged and give up because we all have opportunities to do good. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Paul says we will reap if we faint not. We must remind ourselves from time to time when we get discouraged. God did not set us up for failure but to succeed. C. Phill. 2: 4 Let us not be selfish in our well doing but helping others. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. God does not want us to become selfish in well doing. I can help my self all the time and become selfish. Think about others and their needs. If I omit to help my neighbor in need I have sinned. IV. James 4: 17 If I know to do good and do it not I sin the sin of omission. 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. How many times do we neglect to do what we know is right and needs to be done? The Lord did not forget to give us examples that we might read and remember.
A. Heb. 10: 25 This is the one we turn to first. Am I not attending worship like I should. 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. If one does not enjoy and look forward to being in worship to God why do they think they would enjoy heaven? If your not encouraged and encouraging by sing praise to God what makes you think you will enjoy praising God in heaven? If you don’t obey the Lord now why think he will save you? If I omit worship I omit to obey Christ. B. 2 Peter 1: 5 – 8 Am I not building my faith? If we are not adding to our faith we are spiritually blind. 5 ¶ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Sinning by omitting to build our faith. Failing to study and obey God’s word.
C. 1 Thess. 5: 17 Have I neglected to pray? Jesus says ask, knock, seek and you will find. Are we neglecting to do that? 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. If we know and don’t ask who’s falt is it? Gods? No ours.
D. 1 Cor. 16: 1 – 2 Have we forgotten God? He never forgets us. 1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. If one won’t give their money they will never give their heart. They will never put God first. They will never be faithful and never be happy in the Lord. Have you ever noticed that the one that is against doing anything that cost money is often the one that gives grudgingly or of necessity or sparingly? God loveth the cheerful giver not the selfish even if they give all to feed the poor because they do not have love. E. Matt. 5: 14 – 16 Have I hidden My light from the world? God can not be glorified if he can not be seen and he is to be seen in my life. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Do I want my friends to know that I am a Christian? Yes we all can say “Lord Is It I?” But what will he answer? Let us lesson to Paul in Heb.12:1– 2 1 ¶ Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. |
